Om Puri calls Nandita to Paris for peace talks

How many Indian men caught in the cross-fire between an estranged wife and an ex-wife manage have escaped the battle scene to loll in the company of British bombshells in the South of France? While Om Puri should be thanking his lucky stars that he could extricate himself from the police and courts to join the schedule of Steven Spielberg’s The Hundfred Foot Journey co-starring Oscar winning actress Helen Mirren, we hear our man is already missing home and family especially his son Ishaan.

While it’s true that his wife Nandita has filed a case of domestic violence against him, the sub-text is a layered narrative of a highly emotional marital relationship going through a particularly volatile and sometimes violent phase. Beneath the hostility, the posturing and battle of egos, deep down there still seems a desire to save the marriage.

Your diarist has learnt that Om requested Ishaan and Nandita to join him for a week in Paris to celebrate his 64th birthday which fell on October 18. We’re sure it won’t be easy to bring this roller coaster of a relationship back to normal, especially with the constant interference of Om’s first wife Seema Kapoor who seems hell-bent on becoming Mrs Om Puri again. But we sincerely hope this alone time will help Om and Nandita sort out their issues maturely once and for all. It’ll bring back  the missing laughter in the life of their son Ishaan the little guy deserves better.
