New currency notes worth more than Rs 5.2 crore recovered

Senior officers said that cash worth Rs 8.7 lakh was also recovered in denominations of Rs 100 notes.

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has recovered more than Rs 5.2 crore in denominations of new currency notes from the inland container depot at Tughlakabad on Friday. Senior officers said that cash worth Rs 8.7 lakh was also recovered in denominations of Rs 100 notes.

The seizure was made when the sleuths from Delhi Zonal Unit of the DRI were inspecting the imported containers of self drilling screws from China and Taiwan. "It was during the inspection that we came across this consignment. 26,993 notes of Rs 2,000 currency and 4,485 notes of Rs 500 denominations were recovered as a total of Rs 5.26 crore. Rs 8.71 lakh were also recovered in denominations of 100.
