Frank Mervin, who works at a BPO in Bangalore, is a die-hard Metallica fan who could not buy the tickets for their upcoming concert in the city. One day, he came across a post on Facebook wherein a person with surplus tickets was willing to sell them, albeit at an inflated rate. Mervin responded, saying he wanted four back-stand tickets and deposited Rs40,000 towards them in the person’s account, who said he lives in Kolkata and would send the tickets as soon as he gets the money.
Mervin did not know the person but drew confidence from the person’s gesture of posting his ‘residential address’ on the social networking website. This happened about a month ago and Mervin has not got the tickets yet.
He is one of the many who have been duped in this way. He said when he posted on Facebook how he was cheated, about 10-15 persons from different parts of the country posted that they have been fooled likewise.
When Mervin went to Sanjaynagar police station seeking help, he was asked to take the matter to the cyber crime office.
Meanwhile, ticketgenie.com, the website handling the online sale of the tickets is drawing much criticism. On a fan page on Facebook, many people have complained that they have not got their tickets yet even though they had booked them two months ago. There are many posts on the fan page wherein people have expressed concerns about delivery of the tickets.
Metallica will be performing in Delhi on October 28 and in Bangalore on October 30. This is the first time that the Grammy-winning band is visiting India. The concert dates coincide with festive season in India, during which flights and trains are usually fully booked. In this backdrop, fans from other cities are trying to figure out how to reach Delhi or Bangalore to see the rock giants perform.
