Twitter has announced changes to its verified accounts policy. Users can now submit a request for verification via an online form which will be available on the website itself. The application process is currently rolling out in the US and will be available in the other markets soon.

Announcing the new process, Twitter said, “Verified accounts on Twitter allow people to identify key individuals and organizations on Twitter as authentic, and are denoted by a blue badge icon. An account may be verified if it is determined to be of public interest. Typically this includes accounts maintained by public figures and organizations in music, TV, film, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.”

The company has also set up a dedicated page for verification requests. Users need to provide links to two or more websites that confirm your identity as well as writing a little bit about why you think you should be verified. If you are turned down, you can try again in 30 days.
