The match between Bombay Scottish, Powai, ‘A’ and Navy Children, Colaba, ended in a goalless draw in the second division of the MSSA under-16 inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan on Tuesday.

Both sides struggled to come to terms with the muddy ground caused by the heavy rain as many times the attacking players slipped and weren’t able to take decent shots at the goal. Navy Children were the dominant side in the first half and kept the ball in the danger area for large periods.

They had height advantage over their opponents but were unable to make any use of that as their crosses were not accurate and seemed much more effective with the ball on the ground rather than in the air.

The second half was more evenly contested but the Colaba school continued to look more likely to open their account. Bombay Scottish’s defenders showed good co-ordination and held their lines to render the opposition’s strikers in an off side position several times. Their goalkeeper Ephraim Varghese had a good day as he showed safe hands when the Navy Children players took shots from distance.

Bombay Scottish had a good chance to open the scoring in the second period through a counter attack when their forward Adrait Kotian beat his marker to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper but his attempt only managed to hit the post. Navy Children’s Aman Raut had a chance to earn his the lead late in the game from a header but Varghese managed to send the goal over the cross bar.
