As the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the results of the 12th standard on Monday, it became increasingly clear that the toppers who have scored some of the highest marks in their streams in the city have more than just their dedication to academia in common—they also want to stay in India and serve the country in whatever capacity they can.

Take Yashika Hooda from Army Public School for instance. She bagged 96.2% marks in humanities. She said she was surprised upon seeing her score as she was expecting about 94%. She said that after class 10, she chose neither science nor commerce as she was not drawn towards maths and physics and also because her parents encouraged her to chart her own course. Now, she wants to pursue psychology at St Anne’s First Grade College for Women, after which she wants to become a teacher and guide children from poor families.

Anand M from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malleswaram, scored 96.8% in the science stream. He is preparing to get into the IIT. He has kept BITS, Pilani, as his fallback option. He said he wants to study electrical and electronics engineering so that he can become an inventor. He said people in the West enjoy so many amenities, adding that he wants to bring the same comforts to Indians, but at a lesser cost.

Akriti Kulshrestha, from Army Public School, who scored 97.2% in the science stream, said she wants to make India proud. She said she would be appearing for the JEE Advanced, adding that she has also appeared for the CET. She said she wants to pursue electronics and communication or computer science, adding that she wants to stay in India and bring laurels to the country.

Aayushi Agarwal, who topped in commerce stream in Delhi Public School (North) with 96.6%, said she wants to do chartered accountancy.
