A day after advocating inclusion of sports as a subject in higher education, the governor Kalyan Singh has now laid stress on adding ‘Gandhian Philosophy’ in college curriculum across the country. He had put forth the idea during his address on the second day of the ‘Governor Conference’ at Rashtrapati Bhawan that was presided over by President Ram Nath Kovind.

“Ideology and life values of Mahatma Gandhi should reach to the next generation of the country. For this, a programme called ‘Know about Gandhi’ should be run. I believe that Gandhian philosophy should be a part of college curriculum and questions papers in colleges of the country,” said the governor during the conference.

Singh, who is also a chancellor of all the universities, detailed how life values of Gandhi have been adopted in the universities functioning in the desert state. “Gandhi was a strong supporter of punctuality. Taking a cue from his values we have introduced biometric system in the universities of Rajasthan. It should be implemented in rest of the universities across the country,” the governor suggested. Moreover, Singh in his address also detailed about government schemes and programmes dedicated to Gandhi.

He mentioned about MNREGA schemes in which the state government doubled employment days in areas dominated by scheduled tribe and bringing into operation Gandhi Prayavarana Express Train to exhibit how principles of Gandhi have been embraced.

Earlier on the first day of the conference of Governors, Kalyan Singh asked UGC (University Grant Commission) to frame new guidelines and make the term of VCs to five years term instead of present three years.
