Telangana supporters to blockade roads tomorrow

Telangana supporters would enforce blockade on highways in the region on Monday as a part of the ongoing general strike for separate Telangana state.

The road blockade would be enforced from 9am to 5pm as a part of the 'sakala janula samme' (strike by all sections of people), the leaders of Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) said.

The pro-Telangana employees of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) said they would also join the strike.

Meanwhile, the Telangana supporters, including the pro-Telangana Andhra Pradesh government employees in the region, students, teachers, lawyers and others held rallies, sit-ins, etc today.

The agitators went to the houses of some Telangana Congress and TDP leaders to insist that they quit posts in support of the separate statehood demand.

Workers of state-run miner Singareni Collieries, a major employer in the region, continued to participate in the strike.

JAC leaders alleged that the government used repressive measures in the Singareni Collieries to break the strike.

Alleging that the government was harassing the Singareni workers, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao demanded that policemen be withdrawn from the mines.

A group of leaders from various parties, including Congress MP G Vivek, senior TDP leader E Dayakar Rao and others met the Chief Minister and demanded that the "repressive measures" be stopped.

Congress Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao said the Telangana Congress leaders supported the strike.

He indicated the Telangana Congress leaders were likely to go to Delhi soon to meet the party leaders.
