Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has asked party workers across India to protest against the Karnataka Governor's decision to invite Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the government.

BS Yeddyurappa was today sworn in as the chief minister for a second time, after an overnight high-voltage legal battle in the Supreme Court which refused to stay his swearing-in.

The Governor has given Yeddyurappa 15 days to prove his majority in the Assembly, a decision which the Congress decried as "murder of democracy".

The BJP has 104 MLAs in the Karnataka assembly, eight short of the magic figure of 112. On the other hand, the Congress and JD(S), which have already announced post-poll tie-up, have won 78 and 37 seats respectively.

"As you know, the Hon'ble Governor of Karnataka has colluded with the Bharatiya Janata Party to subvert the democracy in Karnataka by inviting BM leader to take the oath of secrecy. whereas the Congress and JD(S) has submitted the list of MLAs which is more than the required number to form the government. In doing so, he has not only undermined the dignity of his office but has also acted in an unconstitutional manner. This dangerous precedent strikes at the very heart of India's democracy and portends grave consequences for all forthcoming elections," Ashok Gehlot said in a letter to party workers.

Gehlot has also requested all Pradesh Congress Committees to organize state-wide dharnas at state capitals and district headquarters on 18th May.

"Kindly use evocative slogans and innovative techniques to highlight this travesty. In these dharnas, every Congress leader and worker are required to participate and requested to reach out to all other democratic forces / civil society etc. from all walks of life to lend support to this cause," reads a letter.

Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa has said that he is 100% sure of winning the vote of confidence in the assembly and completing the five-year term.

He slammed the Congress-JDS alliance as "unholy" and charged they were out to grab power though the people had "rejected them outright".

"I am sure of winning the vote of confidence and my government completing five years," said Yeddyurappa, who has been given 15-days window by Governor Vajubhai Vala in a controversial decision that has been challenged in the Supreme Court.

Asked how soon he would prove majority, Yeddyurappa said he would do it as soon as possible.

"I am not going to wait till 15 days... I am keen to do it as soon as possible," he said.
