AGM update: BCCI approves 10-team IPL from 2022

The BCCI has approved a 10-team Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament from the year 2022. The decision was arrived at after being given a formal consent by the BCCI's general body comprising the state associations at the Board's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, in Ahmedabad.

The IPL governing council has been asked to workout the details for the procedure of the addition and subsequently the structure of the tournament.

The BCCI has also agreed to restructure the National Cricket Academy and now have five NCAs in total in five different zones of the country. The decision was taken in order to reduce the burden on the sole facility in Bengaluru currently and make it easily accessible for the players across the country. 

The venues for the remaning four NCA facility are still undecided and will be identified in near future.

The BCCI reportedly, has also given its nod to ICC's bid of inclusion of T20 cricket from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, after getting some clarifications on the same from the International Olympics Committee.

The BCCI has also asked for some more time to dwell on the issue of tax exemption from ICC for the T20 World Cup in 2021 and World Cup in 2023 and has the time till December 31 this year to take the final call.

In another good news for all the domestic men and women players, the board has decided to compensate the players for the curtailed domestic season this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic induced delay and cancellations.
