Before the start of the fourth and final Test between India and Australia in Brisbane, there was an anxious check on the weather forecast at the Gabba. There was rain predicted on days two and four of the Test match and it seemed that once again, another Gabba Test would be delayed. On day 1, the action took place under bright sunshine and the play went on without any interruptions. However, on the second day, after the tea interval, heavy rain lashed the Gabba and play was halted with India 62/2 in response to Australia’s 369 all out. Thus, the weather forecast for showers in the afternoon did prove to be true.

Australia made 369 all out with Tim Paine scoring a fifty and Cameron Green chipping in with 46 but T Natarajan and Washington Sundar took three wickets apiece. The Australian tail boosted the side past 350 with Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc playing some good cameos. In response, Shubman Gill fell to Pat Cummins. Rohit Sharma started well and struck some wonderful boundaries. Rohit Sharma looked good for a fifty but he miscued a lofted shot and was caught by Mitchell Starc at long-on for 44 to give Nathan Lyon a wicket in his 100th Test.

Remaining days forecast for Brisbane

Unfortunately, the weather for Brisbane in the coming days is not looking too great. On Sunday, which will be day 3 of the test match, there is a cloudy sky with no rain expected. However, on Monday and Tuesday which will be days four and five, there is a 60 and 70 percent chance of rain.

The Gabba has one of the best drainage facilities in the world and once the storm stops, play can be resumed within 30 minutes. The drainage facilities in Brisbane is what distinguishes it from other cricket grounds. The current series is level 1-1 and it will be a shame if the final match suffers a damp end to what has been a great series so far. A draw for India will help them reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having won it in 2017 and in 2018/19.
