Prakash Javadekar attacks Maharashtra govt, says 'over 56% vaccines unused' in state

New Delhi: Hitting out at the Uddhav Thackeray led Maharashtra government, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that 54 lakh vaccines were sent to Maharashtra, but the government used only 23 lakh vaccines till March 12. 

At present, 56 percent vaccine has not been used but Shiv Sena MPs are demanding more vaccine for the state, he said.

Javadekar has questioned the state government's arrangements to control the coronavirus. Earlier, Javadekar tweeted that the mismanagement of the Maharashtra government came out with the coronavirus epidemic and now there is a bad administration is visible in the case of the vaccine as well.

It may be noted that Maharashtra is the most affected state in the country. In the past few weeks, the caseload in the state has been steadily increasing.

India on Wednesday logged 28,903 new COVID-19 cases and 188 fatalities in the last 24 hours, with five states driving up the daily cases.

Maharashtra alone accounts for 61.8 per cent of the daily new cases with 17,864 cases. It is followed by Kerala with 1,970 while Punjab reported 1,463 new cases.

So far, 3,50,64,536 doses of corona vaccine have been administered in the country since the drive began on January 16 after approval for `Covishield` and `Covaxin`.

More than 21 lakh doses were administered on a single day on Tuesday.
