A special train carrying 700 Tablighi Jamaat members will be taken to Tamil Nadu from the national capital. The special train will leave for Tamil Nadu from Old Delhi railway station at 2 o'clock today.

These Jamaat members were taken to different quarantine centres in the national capital after the Nizamuddin incident. They show no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or have recovered from the illness and are ready to travel back home.

The arrangement was done based on the special request by Tamil Nadu government.

Special buses also have been arranged from the quarantine centre to the train station, and subsequently from Chennai station to respective home towns.

Meanwhile, the chief of Tablighi Jamaat, Maulana Saad, is among those booked under various sections for allegedly violating lockdown norms.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court heard a plea seeking transfer of Nizamuddin case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The court adjourned the hearing into the matter to May 28 after Delhi Police opposed the petition stating that investigation is going on fine.

The petition was filed by advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay who has sought charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act UAPA act against Maulana Saad.

Including Saad, at least 17 people have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder for holding a gathering in the Nizamuddin Markaz in March which the authorities say led to a big jump in coronavirus infections in India.

The Delhi Police has so far questioned over 400 foreign delegates of Tablighi Jamaat who attended the congregation at the organisation's headquarters at Nizamuddin in the capital in March.

These Tablighi Jamaat members had come from various countries and are currently lodged across several quarantine centres in the capital. after Markaz Nizamuddin was evacuated in late March.

They are among 700 foreigners whose passports have been impounded by the authorities on the charges that they violated visa norms by participating in religious activities.

Others will also be questioned by the police soon.
