The fourth one-day match between India A and England Lions had to be stopped after a swarm of bees invaded the ground and attacked some spectators at the Green Field international stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

The match had to be halted for 15 minutes.

According to reports, five people were injured in the bee attack and were taken to the hospital for medical care.

Some reports suggested that a group of spectators in the west stand provoked the bees by throwing stones at the beehive when the 28th over was in progress of the England Lions innings. The bees swarmed around the spectators in the gallery forcing the spectators to run for cover. India ‘A’ coach Rahul Dravid also had to scramble for safety.

On the field, India A continued their dominant display as they thrashed England Lions in the fourth unofficial ODI to take a 4-0 lead in the five-match series. India A chased down the target of 222 runs convincingly and won the match by six wickets in 46.3 overs.

This is not the first time bees have caused havoc in a cricket match. In 2017, a match between South Africa and Sri Lanka at the Wanderers was also delayed by swarm of bees. South Africa's fielders, Sri Lanka's batsmen and the umpires were forced to lie flat on the ground as they waited for the bees to pass.

Bees also stormed the field during the famous India vs Pakistan match where MS Dhoni scored his first hundred.

Most recently, a Test match between Pakistan and South Africa was disturbed by bees.
