Some good news for engineering students has just landed in their inbox. Examinations will be a transparent affair as the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has decided to award students an option to receive their answer scripts — in their e-mail inbox.

When the results of the upcoming examinations (that begin on December 7) are announced, this facility would be introduced throughout the state, VTU vice-chancellor H Maheshappa told DNA. “Students need to register to avail of answer scripts that will be immediately mailed to them. They can go through the answer scripts and decide on revaluation,” he said.

Maheshappa claimed VTU was the first university in the country to make review of answer scripts quick and easy for the students. Besides, it would reduce the number of candidates applying for revaluation — that usually is 4-5 lakh in the state (around 30%). “Students can check if answers have not been evaluated and go in for revaluation,” he added.

But the university is yet to decide on the amount of fee to be paid for receiving the e-copy of the answer scripts.

As of now, this facility would be available only to under-graduate students. After the results are announced, students could apply for the answer scripts that would be mailed. The students would be given 10 days to apply for the revaluation. This move is a part of a series of attempts to make the process of education transparent. Recently, the university announced a plan to digitise question papers,  to block leakage. It would be implemented in 2012. It has also planned to digitise the process of issuing hall tickets.
