Kolkata Knight Riders are gearing up to take on the struggling Punjab Kings in the 42nd match of the Indian Premier League 2024 at Eden Gardens this Friday. Kolkata is currently sitting pretty in second place in the points table and is looking to secure an early spot in the playoffs.
Led by Shreyas Iyer, Kolkata recently pulled off a nail-biting one-run victory while defending a total of 222 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last match. With five wins out of eight games, Kolkata seems to be on track for a playoff berth and are definitely the favorites against the struggling Punjab Kings.
On the other hand, Punjab Kings suffered a setback in their quest for a playoff spot after a close three-wicket loss to the Gujarat Titans in their previous match. With captain Shikhar Dhawan sidelined due to injury, Punjab Kings have slipped to ninth place in the points table with just two wins in eight games.
Shashank effortlessly lofts Chameera's first delivery straight over the umpire for a magnificent six! A single is taken on the next ball. Bairstow then expertly slashes the ball through point for another single. With just one run needed to secure victory, Shashank calmly pushes the ball into the covers for a single, ultimately winning the match.

boundary. Then, he showcases sheer power with a towering six. The hits keep coming as he clears the cover region for another boundary, followed by choosing mid-on for his third consecutive four. He smashes a fifth boundary in five deliveries with an impressive stretch and pull for a maximum. However, the excitement is short-lived as Prabhsimran is run out after attempting an unnecessary single and falling short of making his ground.
Chameera continues his spell as Prabhsimran showcases his skill with the bat. A magnificent shot from Prabhsimran results in a six, as he elegantly shuffles across and executes a lap shot behind square to kick off the over with a maximum. Not stopping there, Prabhsimran confidently lofts the ball over covers for a boundary. Chameera finds himself under pressure as Prabhsimran effortlessly dispatches another full ball for six, this time over long off. To conclude the over in style, Prabhsimran confidently goes over the bowler's head for another boundary.
Harshit Rana delivers from the other end. A powerful shot! The full ball is sent flying by Prabhsimran, who expertly whips it across the field for a stunning maximum. Another six! This time, he takes advantage of the short ball and skillfully cuts it while maintaining his position.
Russell hits a lofted shot straight down the field, resulting in a maximum. He then pitches the ball wide, causing it to find Russell's edge. Despite this, the ball manages to slip past the keeper and slip for a boundary. However, Russell is eventually caught out after attempting a bouncer and failing to make clean contact with the ball while swinging on the on-side.
Curran's delivery was a bit wide, allowing Salt to loft the ball over long-off for a magnificent six! The next shot was equally impressive, sailing straight over the boundary for another six! However, Curran quickly redeemed himself by bowling Salt out.

FOUR! Fuller ball sent flying over mid-off for the first boundary of the over. Rabada bowling to Narine, and it's another FOUR! Narine doesn't miss those full tosses. He connects well. And now a SIX! That one sailed over mid-wicket for a big maximum. And another FOUR! That's the fourth boundary of the over.
Salt is really showing off his skills with that massive six at mid-wicket! And now he follows it up with another boundary, making this over a great one for the hosts. The bowler made a mistake with that full toss, and Salt took full advantage by lofting it over mid-on. That's the third boundary in this over!
Arshdeep delivers to Narine, who smacks it for a SIX! The ball was a bit short, but Narine's timing was impeccable as he sent it sailing over the square leg boundary. Narine capitalizes on a full toss from Arshdeep and sends it flying over the mid-on fence for a FOUR!

The average score when batting first at the Eden Gardens this season has been just under 204. The pitches have been conducive to fluent ball-striking, and the short side boundaries have provided additional assistance to the batters. We anticipate a continuation of these conditions, although the tracks may begin to dry out due to the prevailing heat wave in the city.
