'Lollywood' films seem to have vanished from cinemas across Pakistan. Almost every cinema in Lahore is screening Hindi films these days.

Pakistani cinema-owners now prefer to screen Hindi films as films made in Lahore, where the Pakistani film industry is based, do not attract viewers anymore.

The trend is, in fact, countrywide and not restricted to Lahore, once known for its vibrant film industry. As things stand today, film exhibitors and distributors are showing a keen interest in purchasing the screening rights of Hindi and Hollywood films. Only a few cinemas like Odeon, Capital and Shabistan now screen Pakistani films.

While the Akshay Kumar-Kareena Kapoor starrer Kambakkht Ishq is being screened at Empire, Sozo World, Mir Mahal, Sanay Gold, Cine Star, Nishat, and Shama in Sialkot, Rex in Multan, Gulistan in Sheikhupura, Shaheen in Sargodha, and Seroz and Sany Pex in Rawalpindi, the Imran Khan-Shruti Haasan starrer Luck is being screened at Prince in Karachi and DHA in Lahore.

Taj Mahal and Sabina in Faisalabad, Dreamland in Multan, Zinko Palace in Gujranwala, Sany Pax and Shaheen in Rawalpindi, and Shaheen in Sargodha are screening the Saif Ali Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer Love Aaj Kal, while the Metropole and DHA cinemas are screening the Neil Nitin Mukesh-Katrina Kaif-John Abraham starrer New York.

Lack of business and the poor quality of films produced in Pakistan have forced several cinemas across the country like Mehfil, Crown, Alfalah, Regal, Palace, Paramount, PAF, Shabnam, Shama, Angola, Rattan, Rewali, and Nishat to shut down. Most cinema-owners blame cable TV for their plight.

Pakistan Cinema Managements Association chairman Qaiser Sanaullah said, "Pakistani cinema industry failed to produce quality films which forced cinema-owners to start screening Indian flicks."
