Amid a report warning that the mass flight of Rohingya Muslims can raise security risks for the world, Lashkar-e-Taiba’s charity wing has reached out to them and reportedly distributed millions in cash.

Some 600,000 of the stateless minority had fled to Bangladesh since late August carrying accounts of murder, rape and arson at the hands of the Myanmar's army, after militant raids sparked a ferocious military crackdown.

According to a report in Indian Express, LeT's charitable wing, the Falah-i-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) distributed millions in cash money and blankets among more than 300 besieged Rohingya Muslims.

The charity wing made the claim in propaganda material released online.

FIF intended to “start its relief activities in all areas of Burma where Muslims are besieged,” said Shahid Mahmood, FIF’s head of foreign operations.

A report also said that a claim made by the terror outfit's wing was backed by Bangladesh-based intelligence officials

"The FIF’s operations could mark a dangerous new phase in the Myanmar conflict," a senior Bangladesh intelligence official told the newspaper.

Lashkar-E-Taiba (LeT) is a terror outfit founded by Mumbai terror attacks Mastermind Hafiz Saeed, who has been designated a terrorist by the US.

The report - Myanmar’s Rohingya Crisis Enters a Dangerous New Phase - by the International Crisis Group (ICG) ICG, an independent organisation headquartered in Belgium, which sounds alerts to prevent deadly conflict and shape policies for peace, has warned the mass flight of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar’s Rakhine state has created a humanitarian catastrophe and serious security risks, including potential cross-border militant attacks.

“The international community should press Myanmar to urgently implement the Annan commission’s proposals, including as regards discrimination, segregation and citizenship,” the report read.

ICG analysis of population data for northern Rakhine state from various sources suggests around 85% of the Rohingya population has fled to Bangladesh over the last 12 months. There are also some 3,20,000 Muslims in central Rakhine State, many, but not all of whom identify as Rohingya; 120,000 of these have been confined to displacement camps since communal violence in 2012.
