A three-year-old girl survived a building collapse in China, after rescuers found the child protected by her dead father's embrace.

The child was reportedly found more than 12 hours after the collapse of four six-storey residential buildings in Wenzhou.

AFP reports that three-year-old Wu Ningxi suffered only minor injuries thanks to the protection of her 26-year-old father, a shoe factory worker, who shielded her from the deadly impact of the collapse.

Wu's mother's body was also discovered close to the body of her father, who were in the living room of their home at the time of the incident.

Twenty-eight people were pulled out from the debris, Xinhua news agency and 800 rescuers were at the scene.
