The 16-year-old girl, gang raped earlier this month, spoke about the horrific incident in a few interviews with international news channels. The girl had alleged she was raped by more than 30 men. The case has sparked a debate over sexism and violence in Brazil and raised security concerns ahead of Rio's hosting of the Summer Olympics in August.

In an interview with CNN, she said, "I fell asleep and woke up in a completely different place, with a man under me, one on top of me and two holding me down, on my hands. Many people laughing at me, and I was drugged, out of it. Many people with guns, boys laughing and talking."

She also spoke about the dilemma she had in her mind as he felt that there would be no justice and she would be ashamed, which is why she didn't even want to tell her mother about it. But, eventually she understood that if she had to face the situations all by herself, it would have made matters worse for her.

Commenting on the initial police reaction, death threats on social media and and the blame she garnered, the girl told Al Jazeera that, "It not only hurt me, it hurt my soul, because people judged me, tried to blame me for something which was not my fault. They robbed me, not just in material goods, but in a physical way."

In an interview with Rio's O Globo newspaper, the victim said she wanted to see justice done so that no other person would have to go through a brutal assault like the one she said she suffered. "Today I feel like a piece of trash," she told the newspaper. "I hope that no other person ever feels this way." She also said that way things were panning out, she had lost faith in the justice system. "I am waiting for the justice of God. That might be late but it never fails," she told CNN.

Meanwhile, Rio de Janeiro police on Monday took two suspected accused in custody, while the arrest warrants for four others were pending. One suspect, 22-year-old Rai Souza, turned himself into police on Monday, authorities said. A second, 20-year-old local professional soccer player Lucas Perdomo, was arrested.

The girl is now under state protection and according to officials, she and her family intend to leave Rio.
