When President-elect Donald Trump attempted to disrespect former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday, over the movie star's new reality show ratings, he didn't expect to receive the riposte heard around the world.

Schwarzenegger has taken over the new iteration of Trump's old management show, titled The New Celebrity Apprentice, and it seems Trump is more than a little miffed at his replacement, since being fired for racist comments against Mexicans in 2015.

On Friday, the president-elect mocked the action hero tweeting, "Wow, the ratings are in and Arnold Schwarzenegger got 'swamped' (or destroyed) by comparison to the ratings machine, DJT. So much for being a movie star-and that was season 1 compared to season 14. Now compare him to my season 1. But who cares, he supported Kasich & Hillary."

Schwarzenegger, with all his class, opted to take the high road instead, firing back on Twitter, "There's nothing more important than the people's work, @realDonaldTrump. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you'll work for ALL of the American people as aggressively as you worked for your ratings."

But the schooling didn't stop there, with the movie star offering Trump an impromptu history lesson, when he tweeted a video of himself reading a famous excerpt from Abraham Lincoln's inaugural address. "We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

"Please study this quote from Lincoln's inaugural," Schwarzenegger tweeted. "It inspired me every day I was Governor, and I hope it inspires you."
