A Californian man, who is facing 15 years in prison for using Facebook to help Al Qaeda with weapons training, has pleaded guilty to a terrorism charge in a US District Court.

Sinh Vinh Ngo Nguyen admitted that he tried to help Al Qaeda by offering to providing weapons training to the terror group, while he was in Syria, Sky News reports.

The 24-year-old was caught by an undercover FBI agent posing as a recruiter for al Qaeda, and was arrested by federal agents in October.

Nguyen admitted before the court that he planned to offer himself as a trainer for Al Qaeda forces to ambush troops in Syria, where he had already spent five months fighting with rebels.

Nguyen is due to be sentenced on March 21, 2014, the report added.
