At least 14 militants were killed today in aerial strikes carried out by Pakistani jets in country's restive North Waziristan tribal region where army has launched a major offensive against the Taliban.

Some militant commanders were among those killed in the strike, army said in a statement, adding that terrorists were seen dragging bodies of the deceased while fleeing the area.

The air assault was launched in Alwara area of the region.

Pakistan's army launched Zarb-e-Azb operation in June in 2014 to clear the region of Taliban militants and has since claimed significant success in the operation, killing more than 2,800 terrorists.

North Waziristan is one of the seven regions in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas governed by tribal laws which is situated along the Pak-Afghan border and is rife with Taliban militant activity.
