The production on the second season of fantasy drama American Gods has begun.

The show, which is based on multi-award-winning novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman, went on air last April.

Gaiman, who is also attached as executive producer, took to Twitter to share a video confirming the news.

"American Gods is coming back for a new season, and we have just started production. Things are gonna get darker, things are gonna get more dangerous," he said in the clip.

The video was shot on set at The House on the Rock and featured Gaiman himself, Ricky Whittle, who plays the protagonist Shadow Moon, and cast member Yetide Badaki, who will reprise her role as Bilquis.

Lost producer Jesse Alexander, who replaced showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green for season two, also featured in the video.

The show also features Ian McShane as Mr Wednesday and Emily Browning as Shadow's wife, Laura Moon.

Season two will see the return of Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney, Bruce Langley as Tech Boy and Kristin Chenoweth as Easter.

The series, which available in India exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, focuses on Shadow Moon, who meets a strange man named Mr Wednesday after being released from prison, and soon becomes embroiled in a large-scale conflict between the Old Gods and the New Gods, who grow stronger each day.
