They form, perhaps, the biggest rivalry in the game of badminton, but PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin are a great example of friendship beyond rivalries. Marin has had the better of Sindhu on the big stages, but the duo share great mutual respect.

Sindhu and Marin became friends soon after their epic women's singles final at the Rio Olympics in 2016. The duo has faced each other several times after that, too, but their friendship has also grown from strength to strength.

The Olympics Channel recently shared a video on its official Twitter account, in which Marin can be seen sharing a heartwarming message for Sindhu. The ace Indian shuttler is often accused of letting herself and her fans down in big finals, but Marin believes a big title is just around the corner for her great rival.

"Hi Sindhu, I want to wish you all the best for the rest of your career. I'm very sure that you will soon get the reward you deserve so much which is a gold medal in a World Championship or in an Olympics," Marin says in the video. "So I wish you a lot of strength. You have all my support."

Marin also goes on to reflect on how her friendship with Sindhu has grown over the years. "Sindhu and I are good friends off the court. We will always be opponents when we step onto the court, we will always be rivals on the court because at the end of the day, it's a game of rivalry. One against one," says the Spaniard. "But honestly, after the Olympics we formed this friendship after having played an Olympic final which was so emotional and moved millions of people. And honestly, every time we meet at some tournament, we hug each other, we ask each other how things are going, and yeah, I have a good friendship with her," she adds.

Here's Marin's message for Sindhu

It isn't just the two badminton stars who are friends, even their respective mothers have been spotted spending time with each other in the past. Well, all we'll say is that the bonhomie between Sindhu and Marin is a great example for budding sportspersons around the world.
