When PV Sindhu lost the BWF World Championships final on Sunday, it attracted major criticisms on social media from fans and media as well.
Ever since she lost the Rio Games 2016 final to Carolina Marin, she has lost quite a few finals in the last two years or so.
On Sunday, it was the repeat of the Rio Games final when Sindhu locked horns against Marin but as the game progressed the Indian looked absolutely clueless against Marin’s pace.
Marin thrashed Sindhu in straight games in approximately 45 minutes to become the first woman to win three World championships singles title. She had won the title in 2014 and the 2015 Jakarta edition.
While Sindhu was attacked by many with brutal criticisms, she found support from India’s tennis doubles star, Rohan Bopanna.
Bopanna took to twitter and took a dig at media for their headlines following Sindhu’s loss in the final.
What we do today can improve all our thoughts tomorrow. #justmythought #PVSindhu pic.twitter.com/vKjd9VPdGp

“’Badminton World Championships: PV Sindhu loses to Carolina Marin in final settles for silver again’ How about instead of this headline it be: ‘yet another consistent performance by Sindhu at the World Championships which shows her peaking at big events.' While covering news, keep in mind the sentiment of a sports person who themselves are far from ecstatic to lose in the finals. If anything it already is more frustrating to lose to further be discredited” Bopanna tweeted.
Sindhu acknowledged Bopanna’s support by quote-tweeting the above tweet with two thumb ups and a smiley emoticon.
Sindhu had entered the summit clash with a 6-6 loss-win head-to-head against Marin, but the Indian ace had won the last meeting at the Malaysian Open in June. With this win, Marin has gone 7-6 up in the head to head.
