Harry Kane struck a hat-trick as England marched into the last 16 of the World Cup after with a record 6-1 win over a woeful Panama in their World Cup Group G match on Sunday.
The result, a record win for England in a World Cup finals match, means England qualify for the knockout stage with a game to spare, along with Belgium who also have six points. Tournament debutants Panama are eliminated along with Tunisia.
England and Belgium are now currently dead level on goal difference: GF8 GA2 GD8. If England v/s Belgium ends in a draw, FIFA will have use to the tiebreakers to decide the group leader.
Hat-trick for Kane! It was a little lucky for him. Loftus-Cheek’s long-range shot hit Kane and completely wrongfooted Penedo. VAR checked for offside but he was played onside by the heel of Torres.
Kane has become the first England player since Gary Lineker to score a World Cup hat-trick.
It’s yet another goal from a set-piece. Trippier played it short to Henderson, who clipped it first time beyind the far post. Kane headed it back across the face of goal to Sterling, whose close-range header was superbly saved by Penedo. It rebounded to Stones, who headed gleefully into the roof of the net,
Lingard has been the best player for England so far and he deserved this goal. He creates and executes the goal.
He shuffled infield from the left and played a short pass to Sterling on the edge of the area. Raheem played a nice return ball that allowed Lingard to run onto the ball and curl a shot into the far top corner.
New day at #WorldCup. Set pieces. Rinse and repeat.
