Northern Irish football club Limavady United has withdrawn its bid to sign Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez on loan.

“Clearly our performance against Institute showed that all the speculation surrounding the possible arrival of Carlos unsettled the first-team squad. No player is bigger than the club, and we have unilaterally withdrawn our offer,” the BBC quoted Limavady United Vice-Chairman David Brewster, as saying.

Limavady United had placed a regular first-team offer for Tevez after he refused to play as a substitute for City in their Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

The Limavady fans had celebrated the offer by carrying Tevez’s posters and singing 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina', before a Irish League match against local rivals.
