Andy Murray moves to No 3 in world rankings

British tennis ace Andy Murray moved to No 3 in the world rankings by retaining his Shanghai Masters crown after beating David Ferrer 7-5 6-4.

The victory will take him ahead of Roger Federer in the list for the first time.

This is Murray's third ATP Tour title win in as many weeks in Asia following glory in Bangkok and Tokyo.

"If you finish in front of Federer in a year, then there's not many people in the last seven years that have been able to say that. It's been one of the best runs of my life," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

"I've played very, very well the last few weeks. And I was very nervous today because I wanted to defend my title.

"I was hitting the ball well but there was still a little bit of tension because you want to try and keep the run going," he added.

Murray has won 25 out of 26 matches since mid-August - his only defeat came in the US Open semi-finals to Rafa Nadal.

Murray was tested by world No 5 Ferrer, but he had too much for the Spaniard in the end as he bagged his eighth Masters title in one hour and 45 minutes.
