Remember the WWE brand split that lasted from 2002 to 2011 or thereabouts? Well, rumour has it that the unique concept is set to make a return after WWE's PPV event Payback.

According to several professional wrestling websites, the WWE brand split between RAW and Smackdown will make a comeback soon, as chairman Vince McMahon is set to make a big announcement to this effect at Payback.

An ongoing storyline has pit Vince's son Shane against his daughter, Stephanie, and son-in-law, Triple H. Stephanie and Triple H are no longer controlling RAW, as Vince McMahon has assigned these duties to Shane McMahon.

Bizarrely, this is against the Wrestlemania stipulation that Shane McMahon would gain control of RAW only if he beat the Undertaker. McMahon lost the match but was handed control of RAW anyway.

Last Monday, Stephanie McMahon returned to challenge Shane's control over the company's flagship show, and a formal decision is set to be taken at Payback if rumours are to be believed.

During the brand split, labelled by WWE as the brand extension, different groups of superstars competed on RAW and Smackdown each. There were also two different World titles. Does this mean that the title unification which happened in late 2013 will be reversed too? Watch WWE Payback on Ten Sports on Monday to find out!
