Big-hitting batsman Jesse Ryder's World Cup hopes have suffered a choke as his name was absent from the 30-man squad when New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced the list for the tournament on Monday.

The New Zealand squad would be reduced to 15 in a month's time, but Ryder cannot earn selection with their final World Cup squad to be drawn from these 30 players.

Ryder dealt a blow to his own World Cup chances by withdrawing late from the just-completed New Zealand A tour of the United Arab Emirates, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Players from that tour have now been integrated into New Zealand squad for the five ODIs against Pakistan starting on Monday in Dubai. They have 14 ODIs before they co-host the World Cup with Australia in February and March.

After their UAE tour they would return to New Zealand for five ODIs with Sri Lanka and two more against Pakistan, the report added.
