The experienced striker opened the account for his childhood club but was was sent off in the 35th minute after seeing two yellow cards within six minutes, leaving his team to play with 10 men for major part of the contest. Luis Suarez levelled from close range for Barcelona in the 63rd minute and then headed the winner in the 74th, giving the Champions League holders the edge before next week's second leg at the Vicente Calderon.
"This is one of the worst days of my life as a footballer," Torres said. "I am sad to have left the team with 10 (men)"
He further tweeted, "In a way I feel responsible for the team not winning. I am certain that with 11 it would have been totally different."
