Former Team India cricketer and ex-BJP MP Chetan Chauhan's niece was allegedly beaten up by her husband in nearby Unnao district, police said on Thursday.

The victim has alleged that she was drugged and brutally beaten by her husband Sandeep last night, IG Asutosh Pandey said. She also alleged that since their marriage in 1995, Sandeep, who is a businessman, used to thrash her quite often, police said.

She informed about the incident to her parents in Bengaluru who in turn told her uncle Chauhan, they said, but before the police could reach the victim's residence, Sandeep along with his kin took the victim in a car and fled away.

However, she managed to jump off the car at Nazeerabad and was admitted to a hospital in Kanpur after the locals informed the police. An FIR was filed on the complaint of Chauhan alleging domestic violence against Sandeep and his friends at Shuklagunj police station, the IG said.

The victim is under treatment and prima facie it appears to be a case of domestic violence, he said, adding, further investigations are on in the case.
