Discarded off-spinner Harbhajan Singh named North Zone captain for Duleep Trophy

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was on Saturday named captain of North Zone team while left-hander Gautam Gambhir will be the side’s vice-captain for the Duleep Trophy campaign starting from October 22. The decision was taken at a meeting of North Zone Selection Committee held at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, under the chairmanship of national selector Vikram Rathour.

The selectors from all North Zone Associations, including Vinay Lamba (Delhi), Rajesh Bawa (Haryana), Idrish Gundroo (Jammu and Kashmir), P K Garg (Services) and Bhupinder Singh Sr (Punjab) attended the meeting, Sunil Dev, Convener of the meeting said.

North Zone squad: Harbhajan Singh (c), Gautam Gambhir (vc), Jiwanjot Singh, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Mandeep Singh, Rajat Palliwal, Rishi Dhawan, Nitin Saini (wk), Parvez Rasool, Parwinder Awana, Harshal Patel, Samiullah Beig, Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Yazuwinder Singh.
