Watch: When Lionel Messi paid the ultimate tribute to Johan Cruyff

The entire footballing world was shocked to hear about the passing of Johan Cruyff and his death took us back to something that Lionel Messi had some time ago. Barcelona strikers Messi and Suarez had combined during a 6-1 victory over Celta Vigo to score from the spot in fashion that was reminiscent of a Cruyff penalty.

Instead of shooting, Messi had passed the ball to his right to Suarz who thumped it into the net and in 1982, Cruyff and his team-mate Jesper Olsenhad actually done something similar against Helmond Sport.

Talking about the incident, Cruyff said he was very happy. He had said: "It made me very happy what Messi did. I don't know if he saw [my own] move, maybe he did, but if anyone can do anything like that, it is him. Then I saw people were talking about my penalty. It makes you happy for people to remember you after so many years. It's lovely - the things football gives you.”
