With major launches from Samsung and HTC, Lenovo was also seen launching new phones and tablets at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015. While Lenovo has been in the news globally for buying Motorola from Google, back in India the Lenovo A6000 has been in the news for all the right reasons. At the event Lenovo launched its successor, the Lenovo A7000.

Lenovo A7000

The Lenovo A7000 is a new phablet from Lenovo, that sports a 5.5inch, 720p display. The display is bigger than the current model and is in tune with the demand for big screen phones in the market. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz Octa core processor and comes with 2GB RAM. The news device is much better than its predecessor, right away, with such beefy specs. The phone comes with 8GB of internal memory for apps and user data along with a MicroSD expansion slot to increase the memory.

The interesting bit is that it’s the first smartphone to feature Dolby Atmos surround sound feature which improves the audio output with the headphones plugged in. The older A6000 came with Twin Dolby Speakers but the new device comes with a single unit placed higher. An 8 Megapixel camera at the back with LED flash coupled with a 5 megapixel front facing camera. The battery is a 2900mAh non removable unit, an improvement over the older phone. The Dual SIM device is 4G LTE compatible and should be available in India soon.

Lenovo Vibe Shot

The device grabbing all eyeballs at the Lenovo stand was the Vibe shot. Point & shoot camera or smartphone? Why not both?! And that was probably how the Vibe Shot came into existence. The Vibe Shot is a 2-in-1 camera phone, which manages to bring the best of both worlds in a tiny package. Tiny, because the phone is only 7.3mm thin and has a lightweight aluminum frame. The device has Gorilla Glass on the front and back, making the device look premium while adding protection. At the front, the Vibe Shot has a 5-inch Full HD display with slim bezels on the sides.

Coming to the highlight of the device, a 16 megapixel camera with a six piece modular lens, a low-light back illuminated sensor and optical image stabilization. While most phones now are coming up with dual tone flash, the Vibe Shot has a tricolor flash, which adjusts the luminosity based on surrounding light. It also has an infrared sensor on board to help quick focusing. There is a physical camera shutter button on the device and, when the camera is active, the volume rockers act as zoom buttons; these tiny details help make the device more convenient to use. The camera software is optimised as well with “Smart” and “Pro” modes for the users to play with. The smart mode is the default Auto mode whereas the Pro mode gives complete manual camera control to the user. To ensure selfies aren’t missed out, the device houses an 8 megapixel front facing camera.

Coming to the smartphone part, the Vibe Shot sports a 64 bit, Snapdragon 615 Octa Core processor with 3GB of RAM. The device runs Android Lollipop, which has 64 support, making proper use of the hardware available. To store all the photos, the device has 32GB of onboard storage and a MicroSD expansion slot that supports cards up to 128GB. The phone has a 2900mAh non-removable battery, just like the Lenovo A7000, and has 4G LTE connectivity.

Lenovo also launched a couple of tablets at the event, two Android tablets and one running on Windows 8.1. The Tab 2 A10-70 is a 10.1-inch tablet with 1920x1200p resolution, a MediaTek Processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Tab 2 A8 is an 8-inch device with a lower 1280 x 800p resolution, a MediaTek Processor, 2GB of RAM and comes with two storage options; 8GB and 16GB. The third tablet is the Lenovo MIIX 300, an 8-inch device running Windows 8.1 with an Intel Atom Processor, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
