Apple offers to replace your faulty iPhone 5 batteries, free of charge

If your iPhone 5 runs out of battery in half the time that it should then Apple is here for you.

In a recent statement the tech giant determined that some iPhone 5 devices sold between September 2012 and January 2013 were affected with faulty batteries. The batteries of these phones which fall within a limited serial number range will be replaced free of charge provided it meets the eligibility requirements mentioned on it's web pageOne can check if their phone is eligible for replacement or not by entering the phone's serial number on the website.

In India, this service will be available from August 29, 2014. If eligible, follow these steps to prepare your phone for replacement:

* Back up your data to iTunes or iCloud 
* Turn off Find my iPhone
* Erase data and settings in Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings

The company has also informed that if consumers affected by this problem had to pay to get their battery replaced, they will be eligible for a refund.

It also points out that the programme covers affected iPhone 5 batteries for two years after the first retail sale or until March 1, 2015, whichever provides longer coverage.
