Ex-Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje Scindia’s son Dushyant Singh has allowed film-maker Abhimanyu Singh, his Doon School pal, to shoot at his magnificent ancestral palace at Dholpur – that too free of cost. This permission helped Abhimanyu to save over Rs 5 crore as constructing a set to replicate a lavish palace needed for his film Maruti Mera Dost.

The film also becomes the first Bollywood movie that will showcase this historic and royal palace in its entirety.

Abhimanyu reveals, “Dushyant and I are close friends, so he gave me permission to shoot at his ancestral palace free of cost. We really wanted to shoot at a palace as the film required it. It would have cost me around Rs 5-6 crore if I had to build a set which would look like the Dholpur palace and I’m sure that even after spending so much money, I wouldn’t have been able to replicate the beauty of this palace. I also learnt during the filming that the palace was never opened for shooting despite several requests by many film-makers and so this becomes the first film to show the entire palace with all its charm, beauty and opulence to the world.”

Abhimanyu, brother of actor Chandrachur Singh (who also features in the film), adds, “We had to shoot for around a month and that too in the entire palace. There were so many crew members, lights, cameras etc inside the palace and it was really nice of them to put up with all the sound and frantic movements of people during filming. We received full co-operation and since the palace is like a piece of history, we made sure that we took special care,” he says.
