A woman died of the deadly swine flu disease here becoming the second victim to fall to the virus in New York City.
The woman, in her 50s, died over the weekend and authorities said like the previous victim she had an underlying health condition that made her more vulnerable to the disease.
Health authorities declined to reveal further details of the case, which was the 11th death caused by the H1N1 strain in America.
Reports said the number of people hospitalised with the disease rose to 94 in the city, and there were 280 confirmed cases of the flu.
Authorities did not revealed when she died but reports suggest she died over the last two days and tests confirmed it was a case of swine flu.
The woman was from Queens, a New York City suburb where several schools had been closed earlier for the fear of the swine flu.
According to the World Health Organisation over 12,000 cases have been reported worldwide, with more than half of them in the US. It has counted at least 86 deaths, with 75 of those in Mexico.
