A Railway Court here on Tuesday granted bail to actor Karishma Kapoor in a criminal case dating 12 years back.

In compliance with a Rajasthan High Court order of March 9, 2009, Kapoor accompanied by her counsel Suresh Sahani submitted a personal bond of Rs 25,000 and furnished two sureties of Rs 25,000 each before additional chief judicial magistrate (Railways) Jaipur Pooran Chand Sharma.

The case against Kapoor and her co-stars Sunny Deol, Satish Shah and Tinu Verma related to the shooting of film Bajrang in the district on March 11, 1997. During the course of the shooting in the periphery of Narena Railway Station, Train No.2413 Up-link Express which had made a scheduled halt there, could not depart for 25 minutes as a crowd of about 6,000 onlookers had gathered.

The assistant station master of Narena Sitaram Malakar had lodged a FIR at GRP police station Phulera under section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989. After a probe, the police in its final report submitted before the magistrate on February 10, 1998 did not find the actors, including Kapoor, guilty of any offence.

However, the magistrate did not accept the findings of the police and took cognisance against all the accused and issued non-bailable warrants. However, the High Court had stayed the arrest warrant on March 7, 1998.

The case came up for hearing on March 5, 2009 and the High Court after hearing the matter upheld the magistrate verdict and dismissed the revision petition submitted by the
accused but granted a period of 30 days to Karishma Kapoor and Sunny Deol to obtain regular bail from the court of Railway Magistrate and posted the matter for hearing on April 12.

In compliance with the High Court order, the actor personally appeared in the Railway Court on Tuesday to submit her personal bond through her counsel.
