Los Angeles Police Department, an internal investigation has begun in LAPD to catch the culprit who sold the confidential photographs to the media, E! Online reported.
"The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence. A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination," the LAPD said in a statement.
The police department has yet to publicly identify 20 year-old singer Rihanna as the alleged victim in the assault case and added that the photo appears to have been taken
"during an official domestic violence investigation."
The statement also added that any person with information about how the photo leak can contact the department. The photograph which first surfaced on TMZ.com, is a
closeup of a young woman's face. Her eyes are closed and she looks to have sustained various cuts and bruises to her forehead, lips and cheeks
A source inside the department told E!Online that the leaked photo was taken by a detective when officers first arrived at the scene of the alleged attack, the Hancock Park
locality of Los Angeles. According to reports, Rihanna had an argument with
then boyfriend Chris Brown over a text message he received from another woman, which snowballed into a fight resulting in Rihanna's injuries. The incident tool place only hours before the pair were both scheduled to perform at the Grammys Awards.
"There was another set taken at the hospital where the swelling is even worse," said the source adding that lie detector tests were being conducted to nab the culprit."
Rihanna's ex boyfriend Chris Brown who has been charged with felony is currently out on bail and will appear in court next month for a hearing.
