This 38-year-old artist cum sculptor’s work has always spoken for itself. Now, she is making a splash with her mirror-work sculptures— a collection that was born from the use of recycled raw materials. A perfectionist at heart, Yahel has used mirrors especially exported from France in her collection. She explains, “The mirrors used in my piece of work are carefully hand cut by my girls…I mean the 20 village girls in Goa who work with us in the Monsoon Heritage Studio. None of the mirrors on the sculpture crack. So, people who believe that a crack in the mirror is a bad sign, can still buy my sculpture because they won’t get disappointed.”

With clients like Vijay Mallya, Dipti Salgaoncar (Mukesh and Anil Ambani’s sister), Devieka Bhojwani, Fahad Samar and his actor wife Simone Singh, Yahel and her partner Doris Zacheres’ small pantheon of Indian gods is undoubtedly in hot demand in India. In fact, Doris tells us, “Vijay Mallya has a 1000 sq mt terrace in his new house. We furnished it for him with one of our Buddha heads and a lot of other sculptures.”

But surprisingly, they are coveted in the International market of art lovers too. Yahel says, “Many of my customers are in London, Madrid, Los Angeles, New York and Milan.”

At Ruia House, Walkeshwar Road, those enamoured by her sparkling creations can get a more intimate look of her works till January 25. But, those interested in viewing Yahel’s works will have to wait their turn as the shy artist accommodates people by appointment only. To book a date with the artist, please contact
