Just when you were beginning to wonder where he was, Adnan Sami strikes back

Not much seems to have been happening for Pakistani singer Adnan Sami in recent months, but the once heavyweight singer has been quitely busy reinventing his career, even as he waits patiently for an Indian citizenship.

And while singing may be his forte, but ever since he’s drastically reduced weight, this master of melody is also mulling alternative options, including acting.

Ironically, he’s lost out on what could have been a dream debut because he’s no longer obese! Bela Segal, film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s sister, wanted Adnan to be a part of her directorial debut but had to shelve the project. “The film was offered to me four years ago and was about an obese man coming across a woman in search of love. But I’ve lost so much weight now that both Bela and Sanjay realised the script has lost its relevance now,” says Adnan.

Meanwhile, he briefly flirted with the small screen with an interactive game-show Bol Baby Bol that met with lukewarm response. But as far as music reality shows are concerned, Adnan is very critical. “I don’t want to be part of any music reality show — I think they are a farce. The judges are just props and the final decision is taken by somebody else,” he says.

But what’s really firming up for him is a new album that he plans to release early next year. “I’m experimenting with some new sounds. This album will have eight songs,” he says, the excitement obvious. His previous videos have featured stars like Rani Mukerji, Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan.
