PATNA: The father of Rahul Raj, the Bihar youth shot dead by Mumbai Police in a city bus last month, on Saturday said he would appeal to President Pratibha Patil for justice.
Kundan Prasad Singh, who has claimed his son was killed in a "fake encounter" on Oct 27, said he had not got the post mortem report or even a list of the items recovered from Raj's possession at the time of the incident.
"I have no other option but to request President Pratibha Patil to help me get justice," Singh said.
Singh and his family are still in a state of shock. They are running from pillar to post to know why Raj was killed.
Singh said he had requested police officials in Mumbai and Bihar to provide him a copy of the post-mortem report, but got no response as yet.
"Neither the Mumbai Police nor the Bihar police have tried to help an unlucky father like me who lost his elder son in a fake encounter," said Singh in a choked voice.
"When I contacted Mumbai Police for the report, they said the documents had been provided to the Bihar police and suggested that I take it from them. But Bihar police have ignored my request," he added.
Raj, 25, was shot dead by the police Oct 27 after he attacked the conductor of a bus and fired at a passenger with his revolver.
Raj had said he wanted to kill Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for inciting his party workers to attack youths from Bihar who were in Mumbai for a railway recruitment examination.
Singh had earlier said he would file a lawsuit in the Supreme Court against the Maharashtra government and MNS chief Thackeray.
He said Maharashtra's delay in ordering a judicial probe into the incident was frustrating.
"I fail to understand their hesitation in ordering a judicial probe into the case. It shows that the so-called encounter was fake," he added.
Raj's killing sparked a row between the politicians of Maharashtra and Bihar with several parties demanding a judicial probe into the incident. Maharashtra Chief Secretary Johny Joseph is conducting an independent probe into the incident while the Mumbai Police crime branch is also conducting an internal enquiry.
