The reality show will be the only one that will be on air despite the blackout

When the nationwide blackout of fresh episodes begins on November 10, reality show Bigg Boss — of the 1,000-odd programmes across networks — will be the only one that will be fully operational during the crisis period.

Even though Rajesh Kamat, CEO, Colors, remained unavailable for comment, After Hrs found out that this show would remain unaffected. Channels have to air repeat episodes of all programmes as meetings between TV technicians, producers and channels have ended inconclusively.

Bigg Boss, which runs on Colors, an arm of Viacom 18, does in-house editing of the footage and airs it. They have installed cameras which send feed directly to the channels server which is cut simultaneously and package by the Colors crew. So, you will be able to see Rahul Mahajan trying to woo Monica Bedi and many other antics, mind games and politics of the inmates.

“It is a long-running reality show and it is produced very differently than the other entertainment shows. The footage that is grabbed from the house is just aired. There is hardly any packaging that needs to be done. Moreover, the show shows the current happenings in the house.

Re-runs will make the show meaningless as people want to see what’s happening on that day. Also, the inmates have contracts to stay in the house for a stipulated time period. We can’t force them to stay longer because the television industry has hit a crisis mode,” a source said.
