ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistani military ruler General Pervez Musharraf, who had a brief brush as civilian president, on Saturday said he had no plans to re-enter politics.

Musharraf, who had nine year stint at the helm of affairs in turbulent Pakistan, said he had distanced himself from the political arena after he stepped down as President this August.

The former military ruler, who had to bow out in the phase of intense public pressure sought to brush off reports that he plan to re-enter politics, after he severs all links with army by moving out of the army chief's official residence in Rawalpindi.

Though Musharraf quit almost two months ago he has not moved out of the Army House in the garrison town of Rawalpindi.

Musharraf said he had not even thought about the issue of joining politics.

The retired general said he would soon shift from Army House to his farmhouse at Chak Shahzad on the outskirts of Islamabad. The farmhouse will be a personal residence and will not be used for political activities, Musharraf told Dawn news channel.

Musharraf, who stepped down to avoid impeachment by the new Pakistan People's Party-led government, also said he was not meeting any politicians as he had been distancing himself from politics.

He was only meeting friends and family members and reading books, Musharraf said.

The former president has maintained a low profile after he resigned after remaining in power for almost nine years.

Persons believed to be close to him have said Musharraf keeps himself busy playing tennis, squash and bridge. He has also been overseeing the construction of his sprawling fawn-coloured farmhouse with green sloping roofs.

Musharraf has also received numerous lucrative invitations to deliver lectures in the US and other Western countries but has given no indication whether he will take up these offers. Some reports have suggested that Musharraf could go to the southern port city of Karachi once he moves out of Army House because of security reasons.

Since his resignation, the only high-profile event hosted by Musharraf at Army House was a get-together of recently retired military officers that was also attended by army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
