Kay Kay Menon might be the most expensive villain in Indian cinema, reports Shubha Shetty-Saha

If the producer’s claim of spending Rs 22 crore on Kay Kay Menon in Drona is true, then Kay Kay is the most expensive villain in the history of Indian cinema.

Villains like Mogambo (Mr India) and Shakaal (Shaan) are etched in our memories, thanks to their larger than life portrayals. Kay Kay Menon’s character Riz Raizada might be in the same league, at least hoping to be, after the producers have spent a whopping amount of money on his look and his den.

A castle was specially hired in Prague (the capital of Czech Republic) to create the den for Riz Raizada.  At least, 200 actors were hired to be part of his troupe (read army) and they shot continuously for two months. Kay Kay says it was a once a lifetime experience.

He says, “Right from the costumes to my make-up, a lot of effort has gone into creating my character. It is my first fantasy film and it is a thrilling experience because it’s like revisiting your childhood. This was the first time that so much attention was being showered on me. My den had the Victorian elegance along with the Gothic dark factor.”

Kay Kay says that it was in a way a dream come true for him. “The character was detailed from head to toe well in advance. My hair was almost molested. Anaita Shroff would do my hair every day for two hours wherein she would use this special product which was so solid that my hair would be in place even when I was galloping on a horse.”

According to Kay Kay, the costume made him feel ‘majestic’, “I hope it becomes some kind of an iconic villain because it has the potential to be one.”
