MUMBAI: Cinematographer-turned-director Santosh Sivan's "Tahaan", a fable like journey of an eight-year-old boy in militancy-ravaged Kashmir, has been invited to as many as eight international film festivals.

The film has been selected in the competition section of the prestigious Rome International Film festival beginning from October 22, CineKid International film festival (October 23) in Amsterdam, Amazonas film festival (November 11-15) in Brazil, Dubai International film festival (December 2008) and Stockholm international film festival (March 2009) in Stockholm, a statement by the production house IDream Productions said here today.

Besides this, "Tahaan" has been invited for official selection at the Pusan International film festival (October 8) in South Korea, BFI London International film festival (October 15-30) in UK and Palm Springs International film festival in the US next year, the release said.

The film was released in India on September 5 by Sony Pictures Entertainment. "Tahaan" made its global debut at the Cannes film market earlier this year. While in Pusan festival last year, the script was awarded a place in the prestigious Pusan promotional plan, a project market focused on Asian cinema that provides financers and producers an opportunity to discover top quality projects.

"Tahaan" is set in the backdrop of the picturesque Kashmir and tells the story of a little boy too innocent to comprehend the evil around him as all he wants is his donkey Birbal who has been sold against his wishes by his mother to make ends meet.
