Britain to sponsor TV show on the jobless

LONDON: The British government is planning to sponsor a TV show where jobless people will be quizzed about why they are unemployed and what they were doing to get a job.

The government would pay 400,000 pounds (about $715) to the controversial host Jeremy Kyle for making the programme provisionally titled "Jeremy Kyle Gets Britain Working", reports mirror.co.uk. Another of Kyle's shows has been described as "bear-baiting" after one guest headbutted another.

The Liberal Democrats' Don Foster said Sunday of the idea for the jobs show: "It adds insult to injury that they are using such a controversial figure and is further evidence of their lack of judgement."

A Work and Pensions spokesman said: "We work with lots of people to get our message across."
