Noted actor Farooq Sheikh, who makes a comback to the big screen with 'Saas Bahu and Sensex' after a gap of ten years, feels there is a dearth of good scripts in the film industry.
MUMBAI: Noted actor Farooq Sheikh, who makes a comback to the big screen with 'Saas Bahu and Sensex' after a gap of ten years, feels there is a dearth of good scripts in the film industry.
"In the last ten years, everything in the industry, barring scripts, has improved for good. Less justice is given to script writers. There are no interesting stories written these days," Sheikh said.
Sheikh, well known for his films like 'Chasme Baddoor' and `Katha' will essay the role of stock broker in the movie which will be released later this month.
"I play a stock broker in the film. Women come to him for advice on investment in stocks. He is not comfortable being surrounded by ladies and feels they do not have the brains for stock market investment. But later they share a good equation," he said.
"There is another angle to the story about the families of these women. This film is a comedy and working in it was an enjoyable experience," he added.
On his break from movies Sheikh said that he liked to do one thing at a time.
Film director Shona Urvashi was a long-time friend, he said adding "when she approached me with the script, I liked it. 'Saas Bahu.. is Shona's second film, her first being 'Chupke Se'.
The veteran actor was last seen as Madhuri Dixit's brother in 'Mohabbat' (1997).
"I was in television for ten years and did four programmes including the hugely popular 'Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai'. I did nothing for the last three years. By that time, Shona had finetuned her script and was ready to shoot," he added.
Sheikh has been always associated with films that were close to life and reality. He said multiplexes and corporate financing has brought this genre of films back to life.
"This is a healthy sign. We have now good trained directors, films are technically fine. The need of the hour is to pay attention to scripts. Music is forgettable. In our time, the music was melodious," he felt.
Speaking about his future projects, the actor said he is reading an interesting script and may sign up for the film. "I will announce when I take my decision," he said.
Sheikh said he has no plans to take up television or theatre as of now.
"Saas Bahu Aur sensex" releases on September 19 and marks the entry of Warner brothers into Bollywood as producers.
The film also stars Kiron Kher, Tanushree Datta, Sharon Prabhakar and Lillete Dubey.
